FAQs
What types of therapy do you offer?
At Sunyata Psychotherapy, I offer individual, couples, and family therapy for adults. My approach integrates psychodynamic therapy, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), CBT, and other evidence-based modalities. Each client’s treatment plan is uniquely tailored, drawing from early attachment patterns and current life challenges to promote lasting change.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. I provide both in-person therapy in Manhattan and secure online sessions for clients throughout New York State. Virtual sessions are a convenient way to access care if you have a busy schedule, travel often, or prefer the comfort of your own space.
Where is your office located?
My office is conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan, easily accessible by public transportation. The exact address and directions are provided when scheduling your first session.
How long are therapy sessions?
Most sessions are 45–50 minutes long. In some cases—such as couples sessions or intensive work—we may schedule longer sessions as clinically appropriate.
How often will we meet?
Therapy is most effective when sessions are held weekly, especially at the beginning of treatment. Over time, we may adjust the frequency based on your progress and goals.
What issues do you specialize in?
I help clients navigate a wide range of concerns, including:
Anxiety and depression
Relationship and family conflict
Grief and loss
Perfectionism and self-criticism
Life transitions and career stress
Cross-cultural identity and interracial relationship challenges
We are particularly passionate about helping clients understand how early experiences and attachment patterns shape current emotional life and relationships.
Do you take insurance?
I take most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, Cigna, and Evernorth. If you are out of network, I can provide superbills and guidance on how to submit claims for reimbursement.
What are your fees?
Fees vary depending on the type of service provided. We’ll discuss rates and session options during your initial consultation. Limited sliding-scale slots are available based on financial need.
What can I expect in the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll explore what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and begin identifying patterns that may be contributing to your current challenges. It’s also a chance to see if we’re the right fit for working together.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in therapy is strictly confidential, except in rare cases required by law (such as safety concerns). We take your privacy and trust very seriously.
How do I get started?
You can book a free consultation or schedule your first session directly through our contact page. I’ll respond promptly to discuss your needs and next steps.
What if I’ve never been in therapy before?
That’s completely okay. Many of my clients are starting therapy for the first time. I’ll guide you through the process at a pace that feels comfortable, creating a safe and collaborative space to explore what matters most to you.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
I understand that flexibility matters. Evening sessions are available during the week, and limited weekend appointments may be offered upon request.
